National Theatre Connections Project

March 26

As part of National Theatre Connections on Tuesday 12th March Benton Park School gave a first performance of Back in the Day. National Theatre Connections is an exciting opportunity for the students to be involved in a national project tapping into the expertise of professional writers and directors for support.
Back in the Day is a brand-new play written by Yasmeen Khan. It is fun and energetic involving time travel and roller skating!
In the audience was Cordelia Stevenson, a director from the National Theatre who was watching in her role as mentor.
After the show Cordelia went backstage and spent around half an hour with the cast. She was genuinely curious about their experiences and thoughts. She also gave some professional tips and insights about the production and theatre in general.
Cordelia then sent detailed development notes through for the cast which we are working on before they perform at the York Theatre Royal (our professional partner theatre) on 16th April. Her conclusion was ‘Your cast gave some excellent, assured and sensitive performances, with a lovely dynamic between the lead 5, which is then supported by an excellent ensemble.’
Congratulations to all the students involved in the school performance and hoping that they ‘break a leg’ at York Theatre Royal next month.
Thank you to Mr Twine for organising the project.
