Uniform and Equipment

Why Uniform Matters at Benton Park

At Benton Park, our uniform is a daily expression of our vision: “Together we belong, develop character and achieve excellence.” It is not just what students wear—it is how we build belonging, develop character, and set the tone for excellence in learning.

  • Belonging & Identity: A shared uniform signals that every student is part of the same community. It reduces social barriers and helps create an inclusive culture where everyone is known and valued.
  • Character & Professionalism: Wearing the uniform smartly builds good habits—self‑discipline, responsibility, pride in presentation, and punctuality—that transfer directly into learning and life beyond school.
  • Excellence & Readiness for Learning: Clear expectations and consistent routines minimise distractions and status competition, allowing students to focus on learning and staff to focus on great teaching.
  • Equity & Safeguarding: Uniform supports fairness by setting the same standard for all and helps staff identify students quickly, keeping everyone safe on site and on visits.
  • Community Pride: When students wear their uniform well, they represent their families, our school and the local community with pride and respect. In practice, we ask students to wear full and correct uniform every day and to be smart, ready and equipped.

On a PE day students must arrive to school in their full Benton Park PE uniform. Half uniform and half PE kit will not be permitted, as they will not have the time to get changed in and out of this. If they are excused from PE, they must still wear their PE kit and will be given a role to help during the lesson. Students must bring a note from parents/carers with the date on to excuse them from PE in a performance role. If a student does not wear the correct PE kit or come in PE kit when excused, this will lead to a same day detention.

PE lessons will be outside in wet weather and we advise students to bring the Benton Park raincoat or a suitable lightweight water-repellent coat from home.

As a school, we follow the guidance set out in the Association for Physical Education's Safe Practice in Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity. This guidance states that all jewellery must be removed for PE lessons to ensure a safe and effective learning environment. Students should be able to remove their own piercings. If they are unable to do so, they should not wear any jewellery during PE. For students who have recently had a piercing, we allow for the jewellery to be taped over for the initial six-week healing period, as this may offer some level of protection. After this time, piercings must be removed and stored safely in a clean place., We can provide an envelope for this purpose if required.
